Twig and The Legend of the Blue Button
On Monday, November 27th, amidst heavy rain and blustery winds, Twig's Chalet was officially opened in a ribbon cutting ceremony. Twig's chalet began as an idea for the New Ross Christmas Festival and soon turned into a major construction project.
Twig is the main character in the Bring Christmas Home - Blue Button Nova Scotia video campaign created by the Christmas Tree Council of Nova Scotia to promote the Balsam Fir Industry. New Ross received permission to use the video and Twig for their festival and the rest, they say, is history.
Twig's chalet was a labour of love, built by Wanda Murphy, spouse of member Marty Murphy, and their friend Sterling Gates. What started off as a small project quickly grew in both size and cost, but the community quickly stepped in to help with donated materials, labour and funding.
We at the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Producers' Association are proud that we were able to contribute to this wonderful project's success. Twig's chalet is located on Ruby's Trail in New Ross which can be accessed from the parking lot behind the credit union in New Ross, While Twig and the cottage are in the New Ross area, he is for all of Nova Scotians; everyone to enjoy, from near and far, always!
